Only use these tips if you are in the awkward stage!

1. Focus on Flat Protective Styles

What do we mean by “flat protective styles”?

We are talking cornrows, flat-twists, braids, anything that is being braided close to your scalp.

Why do we want to do this?

Many people struggle during the awkward stage because they are constantly comparing the length of their hair with those who have been growing it out for years.

By using flat, protective styles the focus is taken away from the length of your hair and placed on the style that it's in.

Get a crazy design or keep it simple, the choice is up to you.

But this is only ONE of the ways you can survive the "Awkward Stage!"

2. Establish a SIMPLE Wash Day Routine.

Shampoo, Conditioner, Deep Conditioner.

That’s all you need to focus on.

The "awkward stage" is the perfect time for building the habits that you’ll need later on.

I know, it's tempting to get the “curl cream” and the EcoStyler Gel, but trust me it's not worth it to get all into that yet.

We’re trying to focus on maximizing the health of our hair.

So that you can be prepared for the later stages of your hair journey.

3. Take Advantage of The Durag.

I know, I know “The Bonnet Guy is telling me to USE a durag??”  - Yes, I’m a man of the people.

This tip goes hand-in-hand with utilizing flat, protective hairstyles.

The number ONE reason why the awkward stage is so frustrating is the lack of variation and limited options.

I mean there’s not much you can do when your hair is shorter than The Hulk’s attention span.

Taking advantage of a durag is a simple, easy fix to give  you that creative freedom.

With the countless amount of designs and ways to style your durag you won’t even notice that hair has been braided for a whole month!

This is an often underrated tactic, but I was able to resist taking out my braids for 7 weeks!!!!

Simply because I focused less on the length of my hair and more on the styles I could create using my durag.

So try it out and give your honest thoughts in the comments below.
