4 Simple Ways To Maximize Your Curly Hair Potential.

Unlike those countless bottles of leave-in conditioner sitting by your bathroom mirror, education is cheap...and sometimes free :)

Here are 4 simple ways you can maximize your hair growth.

#1 Limit Shampooing To Once a Week.

The purpose of shampoo is to get rid of any dirt and product buildup that may have accumulated on your scalp throughout the week. However, shampooing too often can strip your hair of its natural oils, notably sebum which is responsible for keeping your scalp and skin moisturized. This can lead you to dryness and extreme breakage. By limiting the frequency of your wash days, you greatly increase your hair’s ability to grow.

#2 Keep Your Hair Moisturized

Afro-textured hair is notorious for being prone to dryness, thus it is imperative that we make sure that each strand retains as much moisture as possible. This can be achieved incorporating deep conditioning into your wash day routine as well as practicing either the LCO (Liquid, Cream, Oil) or LOC (Liquid, Oil, Cream) method to not only moisturize the hair but to seal in that moisture as well..

#3 Oil Your Scalp Regularly

Massaging the oil into the scalp increases blood circulation, which may improve hair growth. A few natural oils we recommend are Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Argan Oil. Applying oil to the scalp may also prevent dryness which can lead to dandruff and an itchy scalp. Follow these steps to give hair oiling a try: Apply oil on your scalp and massage with fingertips using a circular motion. (I saw a quick difference in my hair’s overall health and feel, once I began oiling my scalp 2-3 a week.)

#4 Protect Your Hair At Night.

This is by far the most important! As failing to protect your hair at night can drastically slow your hair growth results. Sleeping on cotton pillowcases with your natural hair uncovered causes extreme moisture loss as the cotton sucks the moisture from your hair strands. In addition, any frequent turning or rubbing caused in your sleep creates unnecessary friction which can cause the ends of your hair to snap off. If your hair is too long to fit comfortably under a durag I suggest you use a satin silk bonnet. The material creates a barrier between your hair and the cotton helping to reduce unnecessary frizz and keep your hair moisturized throughout the night.
